Jozef Van Wissem is back at Counsouling Sounds Records (Amenra, The Black Heart Rebellion) for the release of his new album ‘Ex Mortis’ which will be released on February 7. The same day Van Wissem will perform at Grauzone Festival. The idea of Ex Mortis, or ‘From Death’, was key to this album. It is inscribed on the lute used to record this album, and refers to the renaissance of lute music as carried out by Van Wissem. Featured on the album are Thor (Swans), Jarboe and Nikolaj Komiagin of Shortparis. This sensational Russian vocalist is featured on 'Cold Corpse', the track that Grauzone is premiering today and we are proud to share it with you.
Both Shortparis and Jozef Van Wissem will perform at Grauzone on February 7, so stay aware of a surprise performance..

The record is inspired by “The Booke of Gostlye Grace” by the German nun Mechthild of Hackeborn and her sisters, written at the convent of Helfta in the 1290s. The book consists of her visions and the dialogue between Mechtild and God, an intensely religious but also erotic relation. On one of his former records (The Mystery Of Heaven, Sacred Bones) actress Tilda Swinton read from the work of Mechtild of Magdeburg who lived in the same nunnery at the time. On ‘Vox Populi, Vox Dei' Jarboe (of Swans) sings with Van Wissem. ‘Cold Corpse' includes vocals by Nikolaj Komiagin (of Shortparis). On ‘Consume the Sacrifice’ Thor ( of Swans) plays percussion. Van Wissem will tour extensively around the world in 2020 and exclusive at Grauzone Festival on February 7, 2020.
