New names & introducing ‘‘The Sound of Brexit’’
Featuring exclusive performances of Amenra - scores The Mirror by Tarkovsky, Martial Canterel, Choir Boy and premieres from Some With Others, Soft Crash, Regressive Left, Well Yeah and many more.
We’re super excited to announce new names for Grauzone festival 2022 , which will take place LIVE on February 11 and 12. Acts who will perform are a.o. Amenra, DOOL, Martial Canterel, Phase Fatale, Choir Boy and Sometimes with Others. Grauzone also introduces the new ''The Sound of Brexit'' with new British talent, including Regressive Left, Nuha Ruby Ra, Do Nothing, and Well Yeah. Previously announced UK acts such as PVA, King Hannah, Wu-lu, Just Mustard and Bob Vylan will be added. The regular program includes previously announced acts such as Viagra Boys, Luis Vasquez, Minuit Machine, Night Beats, Ploho and Sqürl with director and filmmaker Jim Jarmusch.
Amenra will play a unique self-composed soundtrack to the Russian cult film The Mirror by Andrej Tarkovsky for Grauzone. The film in which past and present, spirituality and loss are intertwined, fits in seamlessly with the band's philosophy. Amenra will musically translate the spiritual story in a masterly way, in an exclusive premiere for the Netherlands! At the online Grauzone edition earlier this year, Amenra played a set between the works of the Flemish sculptor Johan Tahon, which is now going viral!
American Martial Canterel, known as analog synth wizard and part of the duo Xeno & Oaklander, will perform his darkwave for the first time in a long time. The Dutch band DOOL led by performer musician, actor and Dutch celebrity Raven van Dorst (known from television series such as Nachtdieren and Gender) brings a raw mix of Sisters of Mercy and Killing Joke. One of the firsts on the bill of this edition of Grauzone is, among others, Sometimes with Others with members of The Bad Seeds, Swans and Pere Ubu. Soft Crash make their debut appearance, from DJs/producers Phase Fatale and Pablo Bozzi, who mix italo, techno and EBM. Phase Fatale will also play a solo DJ set on the second day of the festival.
Grauzone Festival 2022 introduces emerging UK talent under the title “The Sound of Brexit”. Acts within this subprogram include post-punk act Do Nothing from Nottingham who are clearly fans of The Fall and Girl Band. The brand new Regressive Left is fronted by Simon Tyrie, whose Bryan Ferry-like vocals are matched with stirring drums and danceable guitar riffs. While still an unknown name in the Netherlands, London's Nuha Ruby Ra is already recognised as ''East London's avant-punk Queen'' in her home city. With her moody avant garde synth pop, she has shared the stage with Amyl, the Sniffers and Snapped Ankles, among others. Headed by Los Bitchos guitarist Carolina Faruolo, psychedelic-cumbia surf band Well Yeah from Manchester are playing their very first show outside the UK.
Grauzone Festival 2022 is growing and the number of locations is expanding with the Nieuwe Kerk, in addition to locations such as the pop stage Het Paard, Het Koorenhuis, The Gray Space In The Middle, the Paardcafe and a record market. In addition, there will be an extensive GRAUKUNST exhibition, performances, film program and seminars, which will be announced later this year.
